ADDING KOREAN WAR VETERANS TO THE WAR MEMORIAL

The Fall Creek Township War Memorial situated at the east end of Dietrich Park has been a popular attraction since it’s dedication in November 2014.  The names of nearly 1000 Civil War, Spanish American War, WWI and WWII veterans are memorialized in its granite surfaces.

Research has begun to formulate an accurate listing of veterans who served during the Korean War.  The active duty dates for official inclusion are June 27, 1950 to January 31, 1955 whether or not the veteran actually served in Korea.  Requisites for inclusion are :  1) if the veteran was resident of Fall Creek Township at the time of enlistment or 2) if a veteran relocated to the township and resided there for at least 20 years.  These are ones which are easily overlooked because their names will not appear on any local official lists.  If you or someone you know served in Korea, we would appreciate your sending a copy of discharge paper DD-214 to the Society c/o Steve Holmes, P.O. Box 63, Middletown, IN 47356.  For more information call 765-354-2946 or contact Steve at dashmax@aol.com.
